Hi Sandie
Personally I think you should get to a doctor tomorrow.  I know some doctors may just say that its hot so swollen ankles and aching feet go hand in hand with hot weather BUT you must be treated properly - you just cant risk your health.  The chap who delivers my oxygen has said that there have been a lot of his patient pass away in this last two weeks and he is sure the weather is the reason,  so please please look after yourself.
have you also put on a few pounds??

I check my weight every morning and if i have put on a few pounds i adjust my medication accordingly, but I do this with my doctors advice.

So please see your doctor in the morning - if he/she is not sure then they should phone your specialist centre.  My doctor is very good that way and lets them know exactly what is going on with me.

Hi Sandie

Give to doc a phone - just to reassure yourself!!

Hope you sitting with your feet up - found that this was the only way to reduce swelling!

Take care, Nic xx

I get it too but mine is the heat and sitting with my legs bent say at a table makes it worse.  I am like Nic mine goes down if I lie on the sofa or in bed with my feet slightly raised.  get it checked out though by PH centre. xxx

If I was you I would go to your GP and see what he says about it. He may up the dose of your water tablets himself.
My legs are swelling up more at the moment but when I went to my GP about it before she said that I should tell my consultant so I will leave it to I see him and tell him. The big problem I find that happens when the tablets don`t take the swelling down like this is that once you go to bed and lay down all you do is want to go to the toilet. Some nights I can go about a dozen times. Its a nightmare really I can tell you.
Today may have been bad but tomorrow could be a whole lot better.

That sounds brilliant idea Jack - only one problem - how do I get to stand on my head??? Could never do it in PE in school days!!! Cry
Hope the increase in Furosemide works and your swollen feet and legs go down.
Mine swell up, despite massive amounts of diuretics, but at least they do go down again during ther night, though I sleep with foot of bed raised, to help it along. When I first went on increased dose of diuretics, I shed over stone and half in 10 days - all fluid, so no guesses for where I spent best part of those 10 days!!Wink

Hi all,

For some reason, in recent days, my ankles and feet have been swollen. I wouldn't say that the weather here (Nottingham) has been especially hot and I think I've been pretty good with keeping to my fluid restriction (1.5l normally and 2l if hot). A couple of nights my feet have been really stiff and tight when flexing my toes. Usually my ankles etc are in pretty good shape so I'm puzzled.

I don't feel brilliant in myself, but have difficulty putting my finger on what's wrong... Other than I am more out of breath than say a week ago.

Any advice?

Medications-wise I am taking:
Viagra 25mg three times a day
Bosentan 125mg twice a day
Fureosemide 120g morning and 80mg afternoons
Spironolactone 150mg once
Warfarin - variable.
Allinopurinol 100mg once.

Peeing well too!

I've got CTEPH and have had a PEA twice, most recently in March of this year (it wasn't particularly successful - but I've recovered well with no complications).

On the subject of a peeing contect - that made me laugh - my family and partner say I pee for England.... Perhaps we should set one up?

I hope you're all well and in good spirits.

:)
Life is short,
Break the rules,
Forgive quickly,
Kiss slowly,
Love truly,
Laugh uncontrollably,
And never regret anything that made you smile.
Live for today.

These things can happen for a variety of reasons. I also find that my legs are swelling up more at the moment. It seems a common complaint here at the moment so I think it just may be the weather. You may find that once the weather starts to cool down the swelling may get less of a problem. The nights are always the worse and the discomfort in the legs can get pretty horrible at times. Try sleeping with your legs slightly raised and that may help. Good luck and hope things improve.

Hi,
The only way I can get my feet and legs to go back to 'normal' is having ten to fourteen days at Papworth. (where I am at present) Rest is the key! The hot weather certainly makes a difference. My left foot and ankle is noticably different than my right. Im taking the maximum of water tablets. I find it strange that some days I seem to be going to the loo constantly and other days hardly go at all.

I find that as well. One day I go to the loo a lot and some not so much. It may be to do what fluid you drink and just basically how your condition is. Hope you enjoy your stay at Papworth. Great hospital with terrific staff. Be kind to them!
