Hey guys I'm just posting to ask a little question, and I'm hoping it doesn't offend anyone.
But I was talking to a friend who has CF and had a double lung transplant a year ago and I was saying how I really want to have a picture of my old heart and lungs and a picture of my new heart and lungs when I get my transplant (I'm planning on taking a million photos just a FYI LOL). She told me how she asked for a picture too but she got told no at Harefield (I'm at Papworth). My co-ordinator said he would do it but my surgeon said this sounded morbid. I was just wondering what you guys thought about it and whether you think it's a good idea or not? Hope all is well in PH land Stacie xoxo |

Hi Stacie I don't think this is morbid, when I had my PTE I asked for a photo
of the clots and they did it, (that was Papworth). Even if I have a tooth out I want to look at it lol, so no I think it is quite a reasonable request. Rita xxx

In 2006, when the possibility of a heart and lung transplant was mentioned to me, I told my husband that if it went ahead I would ask for DVD of the procedure - whether or not I would have got it, I've no idea, as when I went back to the hospital a fortnight later, I was told that after more discussions, the powers that be had decided even in the organs were to become available, I probably wouldn't withstand the operation. They concluded that I'd more chance of living longer without it. Six years down the line, although life can be a bit of a struggle at times, I'm still alive and kicking!

Hi Stacie,
As a scientist, I think that an enquiring mind is a good thing. I too would be interested to see the differences between a normal heart and one with right side enlargement. My trophies so far are an X-ray plate showing my enlarged heart, and a photo from the echo machine showing one of the heart chambers. |

I like to think of it as an enquiring mind to Jaldred :o). Plus my entire life I've never really taken any photos at hospital just because it never crossed my mind but I think my transplant is one I want to remember especially considering the pain meds I'll be on so I probably won't remember half of it. I's also like to be able to see the organs that will save my life and the ones that kept me going this long :o).

Hi Stacie,
In my opinion not morbid at all. When I had a kidney stone removed it was by the side of my bed when I woke up. These are our bodies and we should take an interest. I do understand if others do not wish to do,this but I would want the same as you. Good luck. Carole

Nothing morbid about it all. Wanting to know and understand is something that is to be cherished.

LOL my mum thinks I'm strange, maybe it's because we're ill and we all have a curiosity about it, but I'm excited about my transplant to get the photo LOL

I would definitely want to see my old parts! And a dvd of the op would be great. But having been in theatre many times at work I think you'd strugle with a dvd

I think it is natural to want to see all things that enter or leave your body. Let's face it, given half a chance we all look at the hankie after sneezing, any thing that comes out a spot, etc etc
It is also possible that people might need to come to terms with the loss of thier enemy& organs and come to accept thier new organs from someone who has lost thier life. You have to embrace this gift and try to give more back in part 2 of your life in appreciation. To label you as morbid is not recognising just how big a deal this really is.
