I am Jack. I am 52, never married and live on my own in Southend on Sea down on the River Thames estuary. Lived here six years now. Was born and brought up in Barking in east London then moved up to Clacton on the east coast for a little while and then ended up in sunny Southend!
I was taken ill quite suddenly in December 2007. Over a three week period I started to have great difficulty breathing and  started to swell up a lot. Spent four weeks in my local hospital where they diagnosed sever lung disease which is basically empathysema and a bit more, Pulmonary Hypertension and heart failure. In october last year i was also diagnosed with sleep apeona. My consultant at my local hospital diagnosed the PH pretty quickly which I know doesn`t often happen and refered me to Papworth. I went there twice and they discharged me because they said that as the PH was stable I could be treated at my local hospital. Recently things have become worse and now my consultant is talking about refering me back to Papworth for them to take another look at my condition.
Prior to becoming ill I had not felt ill at all. I had put on weight which I just put down to middle aged spread but now know was fluid retention and had become a little breathless but just put this down to getting older.I suppose I made the mistake many make in life in not taking enough notice of my health until I become ill!
I was told next to nothing by my local hospital about PH when I came out of hospital so I just went on the web to try and find out more and that is how I came across this site which as been a great help. The site is a great help not just for information but for support when things get tough or you have problems and also coming into contact with people who have the same problems you have makes you feel less isolated and alone which you often can do.
Today may have been bad but tomorrow could be a whole lot better.
